Happy New Year’s Sisters and Brothers.  2022 came in like a freight train in flames!  Covid-19 cases are escalating everywhere.  We are all impacted by this pandemic in some fashion, whether we had Covid, were exposed to someone who had it or worse lost loved one or friend due to the virus.  Local 1600 sadly lost Brother Ray Cahoon from the Montour Plant, Brother Mike Bennett from the Brunner Island Plant and Brother Steve Pitchford from the Lower Mount Bethel Plant.  Our deepest sympathy goes out to the families and may our Brothers Rest in Peace.

The U.S. Supreme Court has blocked the OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) vaccine and testing mandate. I was informed by Talen and PPL that no action will be taken due to this decision.

The Ephrata contract was voted on in December and was overwhelmingly rejected.  Our negotiating team took the issues and concerns back to the Borough officials for discussion.  Wages, payment for being loyal while working through the pandemic and Standby language were the main issues and our team addressed them.  A revised Summary of Agreement is out for review and ratification. An explanation meeting is scheduled for January 18, 2022, 6pm at the Ephrata VFW 141 S. State Street, Ephrata, Pa. Please support your negotiating committee!

PPL contract negotiations will be kicking off this month, our Local 1600 negotiating team will continue to work on proposals as we look forward to meeting and working towards a fair reasonable contract.

Stay Safe,
President Frank E.G.
