M&E craftworker meetings have started and Electrical Test should be starting in the near future. Electrical Test has another vacancy in the Susquehanna region due to a recent retirement, and this reduces their roster to one technician. We are waiting for a hiring plan response from management.
10-hour shifts for daylight are an ongoing discussion due to communication at all hands meetings and field chatter. Local 1600 supports 10-hour shifts and is open to agreements that would support work-life balance. I believe management’s interest in the 10-hour shifts may be geared towards a shift that extends late afternoon into the evening hours rather than the traditional 0600-1600. We will listen to any possibility of a 10-hour shift to support work-life balance and bring it back to the membership for discussion.
12-hour shifts and daylight coverage for RTC have also been discussed. The company has committed to hiring a 3rd party schedule builder in hopes of presenting a schedule that accomplishes their needed coverage and work-life balance. Any changes to the schedule would be discussed with the rosters and agreed upon by Chief Stewards.
We have heard positive feedback from T&D about the company’s recent storm response moving away from mandates and forced overtime. I appreciate everyone’s honesty in the survey that assisted in moving this in the correct direction, and I appreciate the company hearing the folks in the field and Local 1600 and trying a different approach this year.
